New Black Summer Update
Dear Friends of The New Black,
Greetings from the edit room! We wanted to give you all an update on the project. We are in our first month of editing and are at the beginning of an exciting journey to finish this film. We have received funding from ITVS, Jerome Foundation, Frameline, Sundance Documentary Fund, Chicken and Egg, Robeson Fund for Independent Media, Robert Giard Foundation, Hartley Film Fund and CUNY. We still have a bit to go until we are fully funded but we are so grateful for everyone on board so far.
Even though we are still finishing up the film, our audience engagement is underway. We recently were selected to pitch the film at Good Pitch with a slew of great projects. We also were lucky enough to have a mini outreach summit at Firelight Media’s Creating Social Impact workshop organized by Sonya Childress. Our goal is to begin to solidify partnerships with like-minded organizations.
Obama’s announcement in favor of gay marriage was an exciting moment for the world at large. We have had an opportunity to cover the conversations and activism occurring as a result and can’t wait to show you some footage. Soon, very soon.
